Shelton High Coach Joe Benanto and his captains receive the Derby/Shelton Rotary Club trophy from past Rotary President Jack Walsh following their dominating win over Derby.

The turkey tasted a little bit better in Shelton on Thanksgiving Day 2001, as the Shelton High team completed another brilliant season with a 39-0 victory over Derby at  Ryan Field. A scrappy Derby team held Shelton intact for a quarter as the teams finished the first stanza tied at 0-0. However, the roof caved in on Derby in the second quarter as Shelton found the end zone four times on the way to a 27-0 half time lead and coasted to the 39-0 win.

Shelton High School Head Coach Joe Benanto (a Derby High graduate) is shown with Silver Turkey award winner Tim Samoskevich. The award is presented by the Valley Times to the outstanding player in the Thanksgiving Day game. Samoskevich scored three touchdowns in leading his team to victory.
