David Grant Named 2009 Honorary Race Director

David M. Grant

Noted Valley caterer and community leader David M. Grant has been selected as the 2009 Honorary Race Director for the Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race.

As President of David M. Grant Caterers, he is responsible for one of the Valley’s most celebrated catering services, in business since 1974. He has built a solid reputation for quality food and superior service throughout Southwestern Connecticut.

As impressive as his business credentials may be, he is being honored by the Race Commitee for his extraordinary involvement in the community. He is currently president of the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club. He currently serves on the boards of Valley United Way, the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley and the Shelton Economic Development Corporation. He is a past president at the Chamber and the Boys & Girls Club and also served as Chairman of Valley United Way's Community campaign in 2008. Grant is also a founding board member of the Valley Community Foundation as well as their newsletter editor.

No stranger to volunteering his services, Grant was presented with the Gold Seal Award in 1996, the Valley community’s most prestigious recognition for volunteerism. In 2007, he was selected as the Platinum Award winner by the Chamber. He has recently been chosen to receive two more prestigious awards. The Valley Philanthropy Council (VPC) has announced that Grant, has been chosen to receive two awards for his outstanding contributions throughout the Lower Naugatuck Valley - The Valley Philanthropy Council Distinguished Leader of the Year Award and The Association of Fundraising Professionals Award for Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser.

In May 2001 he was on the scene of the Ansonia Latex Foam Fire within minutes starting up his grills and cooking for all the fire, police, and safety personnel on the scene. He has also put his talents to work in Co-chairing TEAM, Inc.'s annual "Men Who Cook" fundraiser.

And last but not least, did we mention that you would have found him helping along the race course every year since the race started? It is fitting then that this year he will move to the front of the line as this year's Honorary Race Director and fire the gun to start the race!
