Great Hill Methodist ChurchGreat Hill Methodist Church, a quaint New England Church, sitting up on the hill, was built in 1854 in one of the oldest populate areas of Seymour. As early as 1791, the Methodist Society met in this area on Great Hill. Their first church, created around 1794, stood near the top of this hill, but was never completed. Meetings were held in an old school house. Through the years the structure has undergone renovations and several additions. At this point in the tour, you begin a rather steep 1.2 mile descent to the intersection with Route 34 and the Housatonic River where you will turn right and proceed .1 mile to the Squantuck Cemetery. |
