Welcome New Friends

Our Club was founded in 1970 as a Welcome Wagon Club and was reorganized as the Newcomer's and Neighbor's Club of Shelton in 1996.

We offer "Newcomer’s" to Shelton, help in getting acquainted with all our community has to offer as well as a way to meet your new neighbors and begin friendships. And for our "Neighbors" we have something for everyone... new moms, experienced moms, singles, couples, families and retired folks...in which to participate… just look over the lists of activities, monthly meeting events, socials and community services the Club provides.

We meet the first Wednesday of the month, September through June at 7 PM at the Plumb Memorial Library. Dues are $25.00 per year.

Babysitting Co-Op This is a group of mothers who provide babysitting for each other when called upon to do so using a "point" system rather than money. It is usually utilized during the weekday hours but is not limited to them. The provider baby-sits in her home and receives points while the user gives up her points. There are regular monthly get-togethers so the children and moms can get to know each other. This can be quite a money saver, plus you will be confident that you are leaving your child in the care of another mother/friend.

Book Club

Each month the book club chooses a book to read for the following month, at which time they meet in a member's home to discuss their interpretations, ask questions, and share in humorous and sometimes controversial conversations. Depending on the topic, much can be learned and shared about each other, our families and personal life situations. It's amazing what a book can bring into our lives.

Children’s Playgroups

This is a must for anyone with children! These groups meet once a week in members' homes or out at the park so the kids and the moms can play and socialize. These groups of children, ages one to four, are broken into smaller groups of four to six moms whose children are similar in age. There is also a separate group for new and expecting moms which enables them to share their pregnancy and motherhood experiences and give mutual support. This group meets weekly in members' homes with their children up to one year of age.

Evening Needlecraft/Quilting

Did you ever wonder how you'll finish all those half-done needlecraft creations like a needlepoint, cross-stitch, knitting or crocheting project? Maybe you could use a little help in getting one started. All of these are the norm when this group meets once a month to sit, relax and enjoy some conversation while catching up or creating something wonderful!

Fun ‘N Games Night

Here's a chance for you and your spouse to act like kids again and play all night! This group meets monthly for games, conversation and lots of laughs playing board games - whatever the group selects. Come join us!

International Night

Ready for a relaxing evening, complete with gourmet dinner and socializing with friends? Then here's the group for you! This group meets once a month to indulge themselves with delicious dishes from around the world. Each dinner is planned with an international theme and participants bring either an appetizer, entree or dessert from a particular country. What a great way to spend an evening!

Ladies Golf

This group meets every Wednesday morning (weather permitting) at Orange Hills golf course May through October, pulls out all the stops to show the men that this is not just a man's game! The ladies play a fun, non-competitive round of nine holes. Some stay for lunch. Keep in mind that this group is for ALL levels of experience and beginners are welcome. If needed, golf members provide babysitting on a rotating basis so all are able to join in the fun.

Ladies Night Out

Would you like to get out of the house for a night out with no husband or kids tagging along? Then join this group and have some fun with the ladies. Whether it's dinner out, a movie, a shopping spree or a Broadway play, there's always something exciting to do and neat places to go!

Lunch Bunch

How does a nice lunch at a member's home or a local restaurant - without the kids - sound to you once a month? It sounds great to this group of members. Babysitting is provided at a member's home on a rotating basis so that all are able to get away for a nice lunch.

Mom’s Swim/Kid’s Gym

Would you like an hour or so to swim, workout or read without the children at your side? This group meets weekly at the Community Center and allows you to participate in an activity while the children play in the gym under the supervision of another member, on a rotating basis. To swim or use the weight room a Community Center membership is necessary.

New & Expecting Moms

These groups meet once a week in members' homes so the moms can socialize, share their pregnancy and motherhood experiences and give mutual support. This group meets weekly in members' homes with their children up to one year of age.

Tennis

Looking for a great way to combine exercise and fun? This group meets weekly to play at local courts from approximately April through October (weather permitting). All levels of experience are welcome, including beginners. When possible, babysitting is provided on a rotating basis by participants.

Traveling Tots

Did you ever wonder what to do or where to go with the little ones during the day? Once a month, this group takes the children to various physical, informational and entertaining places of interest. Past trips have included picnics, firehouse tours, pumpkin picking, dairy farm tours, bakery tours, Discovery Museum trips, the zoo, bowling excursions, playgrounds, etc. There's something for every age group; and surprisingly, the moms usually learn something and have a great time, too.

Wine Tasting Evenings

Are you still confused about what wines go with what foods? This group meets monthly to sample and discuss a selection of wines from local distributors. Cheeses and desserts will top the evening off while the group socializes and enjoys each others company.
