PFC Frank Witek

It was appropriate to have PFC Frank Witek as our Memorial Day quiz subject. He was the only person from Derby to win the Congressional Medal of Honor for his extraordinary bravery during World War II. On Memorial Day Weekend in 1999, the City of Derby officially recognized this native son by naming the PFC Frank P. Witek Memorial Park after him. Click here to learn more about him, his exploits and the park that now bears his name.

We had one of our best correct responses ever for this quiz as 20 people knew of PFC Witek and his exploits. Correct answers were received from: Marc Weissman, Randy Ritter, Eileen Henri, Jack Skelding (A retired Marine who also served on Guam!), Mary Lou Boroski, Brenna Kelleher, John M. Rak, Catherine Kelleher, Tom Carey, Sean Henri, Markanthony Izzo, Walter Madura, Marsha Pettingill, Bernie Williamson, Lee Williamson, Mayor Marc Garofalo, Eileen Krugel, Henry Wajdowicz, Edward Baclawski, and Julia Romano.
