Derby may be the smallest city in the state in size, but it is fortunate to have two libraries open to the public. However, long before there were public libraries as there are today, the building above was home to the book store pictured above which also had a "circulating" library with more than 3,000 volumes of the time's most popular literature. The business was started by a 15 year old by the name of George C. Allis, whose name appears on his Main Street building above.
