Derby's
Paugassett Hook & Ladder Co. 4 has been working with the Shelton Fire
Department for years to drape the huge American flag from their ladder
trucks in the middle of the Derby/Shelton Bridge portion of the race
course, but in 2006 they decided to present a new race award for the
fastest fireman participating in the race. Tom Hope, a member of
Shelton's Huntington Company #3 won the inaugural trophy. Tom finished
fifth overall with an impressive time of 17:23 Tom starred on the cross
country team at Shelton High School and is now competing in cross
country and track at the University of New Haven.
Another UNH student, Robin Pitt (pictured above) was the second fireman
to finish and the 7th overall finisher. Robin hails from Hong Kong and
is a fireman back home.
