Bats & Birds Get New "Homes" on Greenway

Birds and bats have 10 new spots to call home along the Derby Greenway thanks to a local scout. Jim Anderson, installed 10 bird/bat houses around the Fire Training School area as part of his scout project. The houses are attached to sturdy poles solidly mounted on the island part of the Greenway near the former fire training school.

A wide variety of birds have previously been documented along the Greenway which has become a favorite spot for bird watchers. Bats have made the area under the Commodore Hull Bridge their home for years. The difference between the two types of house can be seen if you look at the above pictures carefully. The bird houses have the circular opening while the bat houses have a straight slot.

We commend Jim Anderson for this great environmental project.
