The Derby Green (Now designated as the Birmingham Green Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places) received a beautiful makeover in 1999. The new look pictured above was produced by Milone & MacBroom, the city's engineers. New sidewalks were installed and the area around the gazebo was enhanced with the addition of a plaza in front that greatly enhances public events such as the summer concert series. There is also an expanded plaza in the center of the green with a new flagpole, benches and sidewalks. The sidewalk on Elizabeth Street was lowered to road level, and decorative new lighting was added. Click here to see the the new look. There are many monuments on the Green, and if you move your mouse over the Green, you will find links to them.
