Schultz Leads Gaels to Victory

Shelton Coach Jeff Roy with Silver Turkey Award Winner Geoff Schultz

One....

...two...

....Three!

Shelton's Geoff Schultz became the first player to twice win the Silver Turkey Award as the most valuable player in the Thanksgiving Day game between Derby and Shelton - and he did it while only playing half the game! Shultz scored three first half touchdowns as Shelton Powered to a 35 - 0 halftime lead on their way to a 49 -14 win on a balmy Thanksgiving morning at Ryan Field.

With the win, Shelton finishes the regular season at 9-1 and advances to the C.I.A.C. LL playoffs while Derby, which played as a cooerative team with Emmett O'Brien Tech, finished with a 3-7 record in their first year of co-op play.

Shelton/Derby Rotary  President Kate Marks presents the Rotary Trophy to Shelton Coach Jeff Roy and his captains.

With the win, Shelton also moved a step closer to gaining permanent possession of the Rotary Club Trophy. The winning team gets to keep the trophy for the ensuing year following each game until one team wins ten games and gains permanent possession. With the win, Shelton now has eight of the needed ten, and Derby has won one. This is just the latest in a series of trophies that date back to the 1930's. This year's game was the 97th in the rivalry.

Danny Grady scores one of Derby's touchdowns.
