Frank Skoronski Named Honorary Race
Director
Frank Skoronski
1932 - 2013
When the gun sounds to start this year's race, it will be
fired by noted Shelton educator Frank Skoronski. Now retired, Frank spent 37
years in the Shelton School System from 1958-1995. Noted for his quiet and
friendly manner, he spent his first four years as a teacher before becoming
principal at Sunnyside School in 1962 - a position he held for 20 years. In
1982, he moved over to Booth Hill as its principal until his retirement in
1995.
Frank grew up in Derby and served in the U.S. army Reserve
from 1956 - 1964 and received an honorable discharge in 1964 with the rank
of captain. He was the Assistant Director of the Recreation Camp in Derby.
He was actively involved with Valley United Way and coordinated the campaign
for the Shelton schools. He has also been involved with the Derby/Shelton
Rotary Club, the Boys and Girls club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley and the
Troop 3 of the Boy Scouts of America.
Frank and his wife Helene have been married for 58 years,
and they raised nine children - six girls and three boys.
The Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day Road Race Committee is
very pleased to have Frank as Honorary Director and starter for this year's
race.
