Race is a family event for the Burtons

When the Commodore Hull Thanksgiving Day 5K Road Race Committee established the race back in 2002, their goal was to stage a community event that would celebrate the unique history of the two towns, honor one of our nation's greatest war heroes, bring families together for a fun and healthy event on Turkey Day and hopefully raise a few dollars for a worthy Valley nonprofit agency. One family that has been part of the event since 2002 is the Burton family. We thought we would celebrate their participation in their own words and with some nostalgic pictures of the family growing up with the race. Click on any of the pictures for larger images!

"The entire Burton Family (Derek, Chris, Nillie and Jacob) LOVES this race and would not think of starting our Thanksgiving Celebration without it.

The Commodore Hull Race has always been special for us. In 2002, when we were still living on Commodore Hull Drive in Derby, only Derek ran as the rest of us were home sick. Every year since though, all four Burtons have participated in the race. Nillie and Jacob started doing the race bundled in the joggers while Mom and Dad pushed them. Then in 2006 Nillie ran the full 5k for the first time and Jacob for the first time in 2007.

This is a tradition that we look forward to every year. Thanks for having such a fun race and giving us such a great way to start Thanksgiving!"

Derek is one of 36 people who have run in every race!
