Derby Board of Aldermen

 

The Board of Aldermen is the legislative branch of the city. There are nine members, three from each of the city's three wards.

Subcommittees

Community Relations: (also the Road/School Bond Committee):
City-wide development (not including redevelopment) Blight and zoning matters


Operations and Procedure:
Works with various City Departments, Personnel, Authorities, Boards and Commissions upon request



Community Relations Committee will meet every 1st Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the lower level media center.

Operations and Procedure Committee will meet every 1st Monday at 6:30 pm in the lower level media center.
 

The Board operates by passing ordinances which are the laws of the city. Ordinances can be used to form city boards and commissions, establish city policy and prohibit activities. Most appointments to city boards and commissions are made by the Mayor but are subject to the Board's approval.

The public is invited to attend board and subcommittee meetings. The Board meets on the fourth Thursday of the month at the city hall.
